Integrated marketing in digital media works best when…

  • Coherence
  • Consistency
  • Continuity
  • Complementary

…are all used in an integrated approach.

Today I’m going to use the example Meshki – an online clothing boutique with a very active Instagram account that encompasses factors from the IMC approach.

So what comes first? We need to clearly understand our target market.

Meshki’s target market is young women typically aged 16-28 who have a passion for the latest fashion trends. Their target market like being communicated to via social media as a large portion of their target market is fashion lovers and Instagram fashion bloggers.

This quickly determines that their biggest marketing strength would be heading straight to Instagram, making this their channel of choice. They’ve identified that having such a large portion of their target market on Instagram daily, means this is the most optimistic way to help their business reach its objectives.

Meshki have ensured their page has a consistent look, which if you take a look at the pictures below, you can see they carry out the same look throughout their Instagram page: GLAMOROUS

If we consider the 3 C’s:

Meshki Communicates their brand through fashionable pictures showcasing their clothing line and also a few short humorous quotes here and there.

Meshki is Compelling as they give consumers what they want to see, their clothes on real life people as well as postin quotes that their 1.4 million followers can relate to.

Meshki is consistent with their posts averaging 4 a day.

Meshki can now use this marketing technique to see how many orders get made when they post or if posting a particular outfit boosts sales for that particular outfit.

As you can see using the Integrated Marketing Approach is a great way to set guidelines on how to create a successful campaign.

The fabulous fun of marketing analytics!

Hi Everyone!! Once again welcome back to my channel!!

In today we are going to look at the importance of analytics when it comes to marketing. Sounds fun…I know right?!

Analytics is used to assess and improve the contribution of e-marketing to a business. This can be done by reviewing traffic volume, referrals and clickstreams, online data reach, customer satisfaction surveys, leads and sales.

For example, if we take a look into social media, it has become one of the biggest ways to market products to their target markets.

It is free for companies to use platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and twitter to post pictures or information about their product, BUT it is essentially a waste of time if their audience isn’t actually engaged by it.

Now, a way for companies to find out how engaged consumers actually are??……Is through the wonders of Analytics.

You know when companies or business owner posts a story in Instagram, snapchat or Facebook and attach a link to take you to their website and perhaps a discount code? Well this seems like a really easy way of spreading your companies message around, but businesses need to actually assess whether customers are swiping up and even using the discount code they are being given!

Because there are so many other business using this marketing strategy and because consumer preferences change so often due to so many ads popping up, it is so important for brands to measure how sustainable their performance is through these ads.

By using growth and engagement metrics we can measure how many people swipe up, make it to the checkout, use the code and complete the purchase.

In Social media it’s important for business to remember that it’s not about how many people see the ad, but out of the people who see it, who actually engage in its purpose!!!

SO..I hope you learnt something today, I know I did.

How Big Data is changing the world of Marketing and Advertising

Hello and welcome back to my channel everyone!

Today’s topic is all about Big Data and all its magical wonders.

Big data is the fascinating concept of analysing human behaviours and activities, that reveal our patterns, trends and interactions using the data collected from our phones, laptops or electronic devices.

Personally I think it’s helping change the world of marketing and advertising. Its created a way for businesses to reach their target market in a whole new light, as they can understand their target audiences needs and wants, before they even put their ad out.

Let’s break this down so we can see how Big Data processes information in order to use if for marketing and advertising.

Let’s go from the top……..the umbrella of DATA MANAGEMENT.

An example…our mobile phones.

Big data has the ability to record what we do on our mobile phones and follow acquisitions made throughout the day, month or year. Marketers can use this data to extract, clean and annotate the data we look through.

So if I visit 5 different sports websites, and purchase a pair of runners from one of them online (on my phone), big data will record this information so companies can use it to their advantage, when considering how to reach their target market.

ANALYTICS

Big data then integrates, and aggregates this information to create a representation of what my interests are.

With this data, marketers use big data to help analyse and create a model of the information, to generate an understanding and interpretation of my interests.

Companies can use this interpretation to establish if I am a part of their target market, and if I am, they can now personally target my mobile device!

So if you’ve ever wonder why the ads on Facebook and Instagram always relate to our particular interests…well my friends that’s the wonders of Big Data.

The evolution of social media and apps

Hello and welcome to my channel guys!!

Today’s blog post entails the fabulous model of  ‘Mobile Social Media Advice’ and the four I’s that it entails!

This model includes four very important features that should be accessible in an app, in order to satisfy consumer needs. The four I’s consist of INDIVIDUALISE, INVOLVE, INITIATE and INTERGRATE!

I’m going to make this easy for everybody today by relating this model to one of the most well known apps around the world…..SNAPCHAT!

Now, how does snapchat individualise its app to appeal to each individuals preferences and interests?

Well, Snapchat has created a page where you can view all of your friends stories. On this same page there is also a subscription section that consists of celebrities and different contents of interests. Snapchat has enabled this part to be individualised in the sense that based on what you subscribe to, the stories featured underneath are related to your interests and preferences. An example, if you subscribe to certain basketball players snapchat stories, below will be an articles about basketball or sport. This changes for every single consumer…is which pretty cool if you ask me.

On snapchat you can involve yourself on the app by engaging in conversation with people. Conversations can easily be started by sending a snapchat picture, video, or replying to someone. You can even start are chat without video or photos now…WOW!

Snapchat has been able to marvellously include user-generated content. On the homepage where all stories, short videos and articles are included, they have a section where consumers can involve themselves in user based content. For example one of my personal favourites is called ‘Life Hacks’ – it includes photos or videos of consumers posting their own life hacks – anyone on snapchat can view or post to the story.

Snapchat also lets you guys integrate your daily activities into the app. You can post photos wherever you go as long as you have Wi-Fi or 4G. You can also save memories in the app, and look at soooo many past memories, basically the same thing as time travel!

The importance of getting people to T A L K!

Welcome back to my channel everyone!

Today we are going to discuss the importance of getting people to talk about products and services in order to be a successful brand!

Whenever I am wanting to try a new product or service the first thing I do is hop onto Instagram and find as many reviews by my favourite bloggers, experts or celebrities as I can about a product, in order to decide if I think the product is worthy of my money and time.

So if anyone’s anything like me then it means the concept of Social Currency is very important when it comes to their next purchase.

Social Currency is a part of the ‘STEPPS Model Principles of Contagiousness.’ Social Currency is the notion of people sharing their thoughts, opinions and interests about a product or service. Having people talk about their brand can make the brand look good to others.

Now, how does this increase a brands probability for a successful campaign? Well… having a ‘worthy person’ make a brand, product or service look good, increases desire in consumers for social approval, which is a fundamental human motivation when it comes to our next purchase.

Having experts, celebrities and influencer bloggers talk about or support a brand, is a prime tool for the concept WOM, and can provide a brand with its initial good impression, if a notable person is talking great things about the brand!

For example, the brand Adidas…….now Adidas is already an established brand so what is the next step for them to increase each of their campaigns success? It’s making their product look ‘remarkable’ and making people feel like ‘insiders’ if they own something from Adidas. And how do they do this you ask? They get some of the most influential people in the world, such as the Kardashians, to wear their fashion items before they are launched to the public. This creates a trend to consumers and as soon as the product launches…. people want to purchase it straight away because people they find ‘worthy and remarkable’…were wearing that product.

Thankyou so much for tuning into my channel today and I can’t wait to hear what you guys think!

The Greatness of ‘Click and Collect’

Hello and Welcome to my Channel!

Today’s agenda is the marvelous invention of Click and Collect.

If your anything like me then online shopping is your worst enemy. 9 times out of 10 what I order doesn’t fit me, and needs to be returned. So what does that mean? Click and collect is my new best friend when it comes to having the best of both worlds with convenience.

Click and collect offers shoppers the opportunity to be able to shop online, but also be able to return in store, which is one of the major complications online shopping poses – for me at least!

Now let’s get technical. This marvelous creation is a part of the ‘E-business Model’ created by Micheal Rappa. The term ‘click and collect’ falls under the Merchant Model…where companies offer consumers the luxury of both physical and online endeavors of their service or product.

According to Gary Mortimer and Louise Grimmer in the ABC article ‘Why retailers are pushing you to click and collect when you shop online’ there are multiple benefits to having your company provide both physical and online platforms for consumers.

It offers customers the ability to touch the product before they walk out of the store with it, they are still able to order it in the comfort of their own home and if they happen to change their mind they can return or exchange it straight away, which for me if the biggest downside of online shopping.

Companies such as Myer, David Jones, Woolworths, Coles and Ikea have been able to reduce ‘operational costs’ and increase ‘impulse purchases’ as when customers are in store to pick up their order, are often tempted to buy more.

Bell and Howell conducted a study that showed a whopping 49% of customers were more likely to ‘purchase additional items’ when they came to pick up their online orders.

So you tell me…Does click and collect seem like a good business move?

Something that’s beneficial to the business and consumers it’s a win win situation!
